What's the harm in believing? Carrie gets some surprising career news that leads her to assess her work, and Charlotte drags her to a seminar that gets them both thinking about their personal lives. At Steve's urging, Miranda reluctantly agrees to a baptism for Brady. Samantha continues to struggle with Richard's true intentions.

Why gamble? It's Charlotte's 36th birthday, and the ladies are off to Atlantic City to celebrate. Carrie wonders whether she's using her friends as an excuse to avoid meeting someone new, while Miranda enjoys her first taste of freedom from diapers and spit-up. Samantha, meanwhile, decides to address Richard's wandering ways once and for all.

Charlotte looks to the self-help aisle to work out her relationship issues, while Samantha's way of coping turns out to be (surprise!) X-rated. Carrie embarks on a quest to create the perfect book cover.

Carrie's book launch party is shaping up to be a major event. Samantha's plan to look beautiful for their big evening ends in disaster, while Charlotte loses her "plus one" thanks to an unexpected visit. Miranda, grapples with the question of how soon to let men know she's a mommy.

In the Season Five finale, the girls head to the Hamptons for the wedding of a flamboyant lounge singer played by Nathan Lane. Meanwhile, Charlotte's clandestine affair with her lawyer takes an interesting turn, Miranda and Steve blur the line between friends and lovers, and Carrie finds a potential suitor in a motorcycle-riding colleague (Ron Livingston).
