Midsomer Murders

Dave Hicks discovers via his solicitor that Duggie Hammond stipulated in his will that after the death of three generations of Hammonds, some Hammond land would go to the Hicks. Dave wants to develop this and so tries to persuade Johnny to sell it now instead. Johnny would never agree.

Present day and the village is celebrating Sir Ned Fitzroy marrying Beth Porteous. Ned is accompanied by his brother Harry and best man Randall Colquhoun. Their cousin Marcus will conduct the service. Beth enters the church and Ned watches, deeply in love. Harry also looks at Beth, but unsmiling. Marina, Beth's bridesmaid, reacts uncomfortably to Marcus' look of pain as he watches her.

At the protest site the campaign is led by Lynne, Alyssa and Spud. Jack Purdy arrives, furious. He is funding the bypass. A volatile man, he accuses Spud of damaging his car. Alyssa is upset, where will her son go when he comes home? Patrick went missing one year after Michael died. Alyssa blames Jack and Mark Purdy, Charlotte and Louise.

An elderly gentleman watches through binoculars, realises that he has been seen and turns to run. Once in his car, he realises that his escape route out of the woods is blocked by a fallen tree. Two weeks later his badly decomposing body is discovered by Brad, a city worker on an off-roading trip with his friends.

Ernest Balliol, the owner of the "Magicmaister" company which supplies occult material, stands before a fire wearing a ceremonial robe for the Temple of Thoth. He points a blade at Christine Turner, his son Tristan's housekeeper.

Local barmaid Layla Barkham watches James Parkes meet with a man and follow him into dark woods. Caroline Halsey, James' grandmother, hears a gun shot from the woods. A figure drags a heavy trunk and casts it into the river. James Parkes arrives at Parkes Freight with a black eye, rousing a reaction from his father Colonel MATT PARKES.

SAM NEALMS the postman arrives at two cottages on LINTON PARGETER'S estate. There is no sign of the inhabitants STAN and NESTA GOODFELLOW. MOLLY & COLIN THOMAS' neighbouring cottage is the same.
