During the Depression in Castle Gate, the mysterious and disfigured Mr. Ribaldi (Joseph Paur) buys homes and evicts families, earning a fearsome reputation. When young Bonnie (Ivey Lloyd) becomes his housekeeper to save her family's home, he discovers her singing talent and mentors her.
