Midsomer Murders

Scott is ill, so Barnaby begins his investigation alone, until he manages to gain the help of PC Ben Jones. Barnaby and Jones begin their investigation together by visiting the Fluxes, a rather eccentric pair, who claim Winyard is full of ghosts and is cursed.

Ursula has been integral in reinstating the Carnival Queen into this year's Oak Apple festivities. The role has been redundant since the death of Bella Slade; Midsomer Barton's most beautiful Carnival Queen. Ursula and her son Alistair set about seeking the perfect Carnival Queen.

Sir Freddy Butler draws his three wives (past and present and of varying ages) to Haddington Hall claiming to have a special announcement. Many of the family believed he must have discovered the carefully stashed Haddington emeralds. A full disclosure is never heard as Freddy suffers a heart attack at the critical moment.

A painting in an auction catalogue leads the police to pub landlord Jack Fothergill. Jack is unwilling to leak his hatred for Martin to the police; Ruby however, is more than willing to impart her feelings on Barrett. Without hesitation she tells Barnaby that she hates Martin and she's glad he's dead.

Barnaby meets with Archdeacon Able, who explains that Gant was removed from his last Parish after he was caught groping another man. Mildred had told Peggy Aynscombe and Lorna Hastings in case they needed something to blackmail Gant with. They come clean to Barnaby.

Barnaby questions Ginny and spots a locked door in the stables, they try the door and Orlando bursts out from the room, accusing Ginny of trying to hurt Rose. Ginny reluctantly begins to tell Barnaby the truth.

Barnaby lifts all the police presence at Connor's flat in the hope of enticing the killer back to the house. He hides away and waits; finally Leo Clarke (another Midsomer Worthy choir member) turns up at the house and begins stripping all the paintings.

Barnaby goes to the Woodrow house to confront Lance and Felicity about this, and while there, notices an antique card table. Lance tells him he bought it from local antiques dealer (and character witness) Jamie Cramner. Barnaby has seen it somewhere before - at Mrs Beverley's old house, before she moved into sheltered accommodation. Curious, Barnaby pays Mrs Beverley a visit.
