Collonges-la-Rouge, known as the "town of 25 towers" in the Limousin region, developed around an 8th-century priory founded by monks from Charroux. It sheltered peasants, traders and craftsmen, and grew thanks to pilgrims on the Way of Saint James. Its architecture is entirely built in red sandstone and earth, used consistently in all houses and worked for generations by local stonecutters.
