At its peak, the West Midlands was the hardest hit of any part of the UK outside London. On its busiest day the 111-call centre experienced a 300% increase in call volume with only 4% of calls answered. We follow 18-year-old university student Ollie and 55-year-old retired sales manager Jackie as they try to squeeze five weeks of call handler training into just a fortnight.

As the coronavirus sweeps across the country, it brings with it a wave of fear and anxiety. While mental health nurse, Jim, counsels people struggling with self-isolation, paramedics Karina and James respond to a call from a man threatening suicide. But it isn't just patients who are feeling the effects - up to 50% of NHS workers nationally, report an impact on their mental health.

As the U.K enters its fourth week of lockdown, the ambulance service comes to the aid of the staff of care homes who are feeling forgotten as the virus claims the lives of so many residents. It falls on ambulance crews like Julie and Adam to provide help and reassurance to care home staff and residents.
