The Clampetts, a rural Ozark family, relocate to Beverly Hills after $25-million-worth of oil is discovered on their property. After much coaxing by Cousin Pearl, Jed Clampett sells the swamp to Mr. Brewster of the OK Oil Company and moves the family to a mansion in Beverly Hills to begin a new life.

As the Clampetts begin to settle into their new environs in California, they must first adjust to such things such as refrigerators, ovens, flamingoes, and the "cement pond." Meanwhile, Miss Hathaway, executive secretary to banker Milburn Drysdale, mistakes the Clampetts for "domestic" help.

Jane Hathaway finds the task of helping the Clampetts become more sophisticated a much tougher task than she envisioned, while Pearl Bodine attempts to get the attention of Mr. Brewster.

Mr. Drysdale panics when Mrs. Drysdale returns from Boston early because he does not wish for her to meet the Clampetts. Mr. Drysdale thus sets Miss Hathaway on a mission to entice the Clampetts to go on a trip to Palm Springs. Meanwhile, Granny and Jed come to suspect that Mrs. Drysdale is a drunk and make plans to cure her.

Upon Mr. Drysdale's advice to buy good stock, Jed purchases farm animals to raise. Granny prepares her special mash to help cure Mrs. Drysdale of her drinking problem. Meanwhile, Mrs. Drysdale is convinced she is imagining things, because she sees Granny hovering outside her window, and a goat and chicken in her bathroom.

Granny longs for Missouri as folks are not as welcoming in their new hometown. Jed convinces her that they should take the initiative of getting to know their new neighbors themselves instead. Meanwhile, Jed tries to lure Pearl to visit while she attempts to marry the oilman, while also searching for a young man for Jethrine.

Elly May starts wearing dresses, she but takes it as an insult when someone says she looks like a city girl. Mr. Drysdale talks Jed into taking in his butler Ravenswood and upstairs girl Marie in a plan to civilize the Clampetts, but the Clampetts do not quite understand the idea behind servitude.

Jethro announces that Pearl has sent the family a letter. In this letter, Pearl says how she hopes her son is doing well in school. Jed realizes that Jethro should be in the fifth grade and tells him they have to find a school that day.

Misunderstandings abound as the spoiled college student Sonny Drysdale attempts to woo Elly May, only to flee back home to his mother in the end. To smooth things over Granny and Jed invite the Drysdale's to their home for Thanksgiving.

Sonny and Elly are getting more serious. Sonny loves Elly's character and tells her how she makes him feel superior. But Jed worries about this courtship.

When Sonny Drysdale promises to give Elly May a ring, Granny thinks Sonny is going to propose and decides to play matchmaker. Cousin Pearl cannot stand the idea that Elly May will get married before Jethrine, so Pearl aims to play matchmaker herself between Jethrine and Jasper Depew.

Sonny has jilted Elly May and the Clampetts are prepared to feud with the Drysdales.

When Granny, Uncle Jed, Elly May and Jethro decide to return to the country for the holidays, they discover airline travel. Back home, Cousin Pearl and Jethrine make plans to visit the Clampetts in Beverly Hills.

Back in Missouri for Christmas, Elly May bonds with her old animal friends. Pearl plays the piano for the "new" movie in town (the silent version of Ben Hur) to impress Mr. Brewster. While Mr. Brewster tries to sneak out of the movie, Homer Winch takes the initiative and declares his love for Pearl.

Mr. Brewster is not wild about marriage, but the whole county knows that Cousin Pearl has her hat set for the man. Jed comes up with a plan that will help Pearl save face by having Mr. Brewster propose to her in public, and then have Pearl turn him down. Jed does not count on Mr. Brewster's convincing proposal.

As the Clampetts pack up to return to Beverly Hills, Jethrine tries to sneak Jazzbo Depew back with them, and Elly says goodbye to her animals. Back in Beverly Hills, Miss Hathaway dresses the vamp to meet Jethro at the airport. Once home, the feuding begins between Granny and Pearl over who runs the kitchen.

Pearl is trying to give Granny a break, figuring that Granny is so old and feeble that she cannot perform her household chores anymore. This upsets Granny greatly because she knows she can still get the job done.

Jed and Granny are discussing Mr. Drysdale, who they feel sorry for since his wife isn't in town much.

Pearl is setting up to give singing, yodeling, and piano lessons to the people of Beverly Hills. Duke is having problems with Pearl's yodeling because it hurts his ears, so he runs into the Drysdale yard, howling.

Two of Pearl's most ardent former suitors visit her in Beverly Hills, but Pearl mistakenly believes they are there to propose to her because a letter they had sent prior to their arrival mentions "an engagement." Jed throws a wingding for gentlemen visitors, and the duo play music for the event.

Granny cannot stand Pearl's yodeling, so she reports her to the police. When one of the officers takes Pearl outside to the squad car, Granny has a change of heart, and becomes sad and contrite about calling the law. Meanwhile, the police find Granny's secret moonshine still.

Jed and Duke are feeling poorly, so Jed asks Granny to make some Spring Tonic for them. Granny tells Jed she can make the tonic, but it won't help because what they need is female company.

The Clampetts are visited by a stranger, H.H.H. Jones. But this man is a confidence man, looking to get rich by selling Jed different monuments in the Los Angeles area. He starts out by trying to sell the Hollywood Bowl.

When rival banker Bill Hacker challenges Mr. Drysdale to a skeet shoot, Mr. Drysdale has no choice but to enlist the sharpshooting skills of Jed by temporarily making him Vice President of the bank. When Hacker discovers Drysdale's ruse, he demands he be allowed to pick Drysdale's partner, who turns out to be Granny.
