Abby, Pratt and Morris try to figure out how to handle Dr. Morretti's strict new ER procedures. Gates frantically tries to find out what happened to Neela. Moreover Gates finds out that a patient was responsible for the explosion at an anti-war rally.

Dr. Moretti continues to institute new measures that cause many of the ER doctors to despise him.

When a teenage wrestler comes into the ER with severe vomiting, Pratt discovers that the cause of the problem is very serious. Gates tries to help a child with a deadly disease, and two volunteer police officers come in with gunshot wounds.

A former patient decides to provide free beauty treatments in the ER. Joe visits the ER after a fall from a jungle gym. Gates makes a terminally ill boy's baseball dream come true.

Moretti decides that Gates is ready to return to the ER. Neela must mentor a young genius intern. Morris has a hard time resisting women while Hope is away.

Morris and Pratt cram for their medical boards when Morretti brings in a new attending physician to help with the load. Sam and Abby work on an attention-hungry patient who comes into the ER with elusive symptoms.

Rolling brownouts hit Chicago. Morris buys an energy-efficient car. Abby and Pratt disagree on a fussy baby's diagnosis, and with Kovac in Croatia, Abby gives in to temptation.

Gates and Julia nurture their newfound romance, but a troubling phone call interrupts them. The other doctors notice that Abby is off her game. Harold saves the day in a critical situation. Kovac returns a day early.

Abby feels uncomfortable when Luka's brother visits from Croatia. Gates feels the pressures of fatherhood when Sarah decides to host a sleepover. The appointment of a temporary head of the ER upsets Pratt.

Luka and Abby make plans to go to Croatia after his father dies. A man comes to the hospital after his wife's car accident and meets someone from his past. Julia holds a service to bless the ER and patients who have been lost.

Sam finds that she has much in common with a patient. A woman rushes her son to the ER after he falls in gym class, while the hospital higher-ups refuse to take Pratt seriously.

Abby checks out of rehab and finds her way back to the ER. Harold finds new confidence after a big night with Neela's cousin, and multiple victims of a fire come in.

Pratt gets cold feet when Bettina gets serious about their relationship, Neela joins a hockey team, and a prison doctor visits the ER.

Dr. Brenner refuses to teach the interns. Gates treats a young patient with major heart trouble. Abby considers telling Kovac the truth about her affair as she heads to Croatia. Sam finds out that Gates and Julia have broken up.

Neela makes a quick decision about a patient with a torn aorta. Sarah's grandfather collapses and is rushed to the ER. Gates sends Sam flowers to let her know that he is serious.

Neela finds out the aorta surgery on Sheryl Hawkins has caused an infection. Abby discovers a serious condition while treating a beaten teen, while Kovac struggles to forgive Abby for her indiscretion.

Pratt decides to fight for his relationship with Bettina, despite her reluctance. Neela treats a young couple but quickly discovers their criminal status. Abby is afraid her relationship with Kovac is over.

The hospital psychologist works with Morris after his run-in with jewelry thieves. Neela is frustrated when Sheryl needs a fourth surgery for her infection. Abby struggles with a decision when she is offered a new job.

Gates worries that his relationship with Sam is not as serious as he thought. A drunken, mysterious patient threatens the safety of everyone at County General. Kovac is shocked when Moretti pays him a visit.
