Muthuchirppi and Susila, both downtrodden orphans, get married in the hope of building a family of their own. Susila has a history of severe menstrual health problems. To afford her medical treatment, Muthuchirppi borrows money from a ruthless moneylender, only to fall into his vicious debt trap.
