Judge Abby Stone follows in the footsteps of her late father Harry Stone as she takes over the night shift of a Manhattan arraignment court. When a public defender is needed, Abby sees potential in an unlikely candidate in former prosecutor Dan Fielding.

Abby pushes Dan to embrace his new role as public defender. Neil gets on board with Abby's quest to improve the courtroom and quickly realizes why trying is for the birds.

Abby makes a mistake in the courtroom, she decides to adopt an all-business approach to get things back on track, but her new style catches everyone off-guard.

An entrepreneur has Dan and the gang seeing a chance to get in on the next billion-dollar idea, but Abby stumbles on the young CEO's history of fraud.

Neil's crush on Abby is making things uncomfortable for everyone, but Abby sees a way out when she meets an unrequited love from his past who just happens to be newly available (guest star Melissa Villasenor).
