Henry Aldrich and his best friend Dizzy start the Excelsior Baby Minding Agency to earn extra money, but trouble begins when they are left caring for an infant whose mother leaves town to clear her husband of a crime. As Henry tries to keep the child hidden, his good intentions lead to increasingly tangled misunderstandings at home and with the Child Welfare Board.
