Once upon a time there was a kind old man with an imperious old woman. Beautiful Nastenka is the man’s daughter, while ugly Marfushka is the woman’s. Ivan is Nastenka’s lover. Out of anger, the forest sorcerer disfigures Ivan’s face. The evil old woman tries to marry her daughter but all the suitors choose Nastenka. Angered, she orders the old man to kill his daughter.
