The Patty Duke Show

A rainy weather forecast spoils plans for a luau. Patty expects a dull evening is ahead...until she manages a movie invitation from Richard. With the ringing of the doorbell all her plans change. She opens the door to find Frankie Avalon in distress. His car broke down and he has to make a plane. Patty - thinking fast - makes plans to keep him from getting away too soon!

Patty hates the thought of having her tonsils removed...until she meets Dr. Morgan! She immediately flips for him. When she hears him saying "she's a beauty" Patty thinks she's the beauty.

Monica throws a party, inviting her ex-boyfriend Richard as her date. Cathy also receives an invitation. This leaves Patty out in the cold. For revenge, Patty plans a party for the same night as Monica's, using The Shindogs, a singing group from school, to lure people away from Monica. However, everyone is committed to Monica.

When Richard stays at the Lane's as a houseguest for a week, turmoil is the order of the day! The Lanes tell Richard to act like a member of the family, and not feel like a guest. It soon becomes obvious to the Lanes that things operate a great deal differently at Richard's house!

Patty's "op art" painting from a school class isn't too good - but her family's praise convinces her it is. She hangs the paintings in the living room much to everyone's distress. The family's problem of how to remove the painting without hurting Patty is solved, when Mrs. Marlow takes it for the church auction!

Marcia Mason, a new girl in school, is convinced she is the original hard luck girl. Nothing in life seems to go right for her. Then she meets Patty. Patty begins "Operation Build-Up," convinced that all Marcia needs is self-confidence. Patty is just the one to give it to her!

Interpol Agent David Matson stops for a visit at the Lane house, Patty takes a phone message for him, setting up a meeting with "The Lady in White." Patty is sure "The Lady in White" is part of an international spy ring out to trap David. In true James Bond fashion, Patty and Ross set out to warn Matson of his plight.

Richard borrows his father's car and has his first accident. Not knowing Richard is the guilty driver, Patty agrees to be a witness against him. Patty and Richard visit the other driver's home to talk over the damages, and discover him in bed, suffering from severe internal injuries! He threatens to take Richard to court for a $10,000 injury claim!

Patty tests Richard ... with surprising results! When he mistakes her for Cathy, Patty continues to fool him to see how he will react to interest from another girl.

Patty has a slight fever. She is hurried to bed by her mother, who soon gets pretty sick of the "patient!" Patty has endless requests for everything, from magazines on a table across the room, to fruit from downstairs, keeping her mother hopping! Between requests Patty occupies herself with the Yellow Pages, tying up the phone getting estimates for swimming pools and burial plots!

Patty isn't speaking to Richard. She tells brother Ross to hang up if Richard calls. When Richard calls, Ross hangs up...and Patty explodes! She wants to talk to him after all! Ross tries to help them patch up their differences, but each time he does what Patty asks, she has changed her mind!

Patty becomes a nurse's aid...and more of a problem than usual to her father. The doctor orders Mr. Lane to the hospital for a weekend of total rest. Patty works in the same hospital. Patty tries to interest her father in a book to distract his mind from office work, which he has brought to the hospital in his briefcase.

When Patty discovers the young, handsome painter next door is studying forestry, she convinces her family they should vacation in the woods. Mr. Lane, eager to avoid mishap, plan a "trial run" camping expedition. With borrowed equipment, the family will camp in the backyard! Even Mr. Lane proves unprepared for the at-home camping venture.

To prove to a friend - and herself - that the Lane's will not let her leave home, Cathy applies for an exchange student scholarship. To her amazement, the family seems to be all for the idea! Cathy is heartbroken but plans to leave for Argentina, hoping the Lane's will change their minds before it's too late.

Patty must improve her History grade or she can't go out for two weeks. She seeks help from a new student, a History whiz. Pretending to do the work herself, she lets him write her term paper.

When Martin puts a time limit on everyone's phone calls, the kids try to earn money to buy their own phone.

Mr. and Mrs. Lane go to Atlantic City for the weekend, leaving Patty in charge at home. Patty promises to keep Ross in hand. Ross has other ideas. Ross threatens to run away, unless Patty eases home discipline. Unperturbed, Patty wishes him well and makes sandwiches for his runaway! Ross, his bluff called, runs only as far as the front yard.

Mr. Lane helps the family decide on his birthday gift by leaving a clipped advertisement of the item he really wants - a Swiss pocketknife - lying around. They find the advertisement, but think Mr. Lane wants the hunting rifle advertised on the reverse side! They struggle with the staggering $99.50 price tag!

Patty discovers Gate Garrison, an out of work musician waiting for his "ship to come in." He comes home with her for dinner...and doesn't leave!

Patty promises her school class she'll bring in the greatest speaker in the whole wide world: her father. Then, she asks him if he will speak to the class. Though he loves public speaking, Mr. Lane refuses the "invitation," hoping to teach Patty not to commit others to obligations, without first checking.

Ross fights a new boy at school, gets his eye blackened. Patty, in a rage, intends to find the bully and spank him...until she meets his brother. Alan Mitchell, brother of Jerry the bully, is a real knockout! Patty insists Ross apologize and bawls him out for picking on new neighbors. Patty campaigns for a date with Alan. Ross continues to be mauled by Jerry.

Patty attempts to earn some money and at the same time help her father secure a contract with his newspaper's society editor, whose old contract recently expired. The editor, Eloise Sutton, needs someone to baby-sit with her small, very spoiled dog while she vacations out of town. Patty volunteers to do the job.

When Patty hears another boy wants to date her, she breaks up with Richard. The other boy turns out to be interested in someone else. All the other girls begin chasing newly-detached Richard and Patty can't get a date with anyone. Hoping to make Richard jealous, Patty invents another boy. She constantly talks of her new "suitor" who takes her to fancy places and drives his own car.

As part of a class assignment, Patty writes a letter to the head of the Russian Predidium...then gets an answering letter! This stirs up trouble for Patty with the State Department.
