Following a mysterious message from local activist Sonja á Heyggi, claiming that she is his daughter and that her life is now in danger, journalist Hannis Martinsson returns home to the Faroes. (Nordic Noir, Best of Crime)

As the mystery around Sonja deepens, detective chief inspector Karla Mohr must work fast to settle down Hannis and her superiors, as well as the local community. Meanwhile, Hannis begins his investigation.

Karla struggles as she comes across new evidence that leaves her questioning everything. Continuing with his inquiries into his daughter's death, Hannis tries to piece together the clues Sonja left behind.

Hannis discovers a covert operation that reveals Sonja could not have died how and where the police claim she did. Meanwhile, Karla goes public to effectively close Sonja's case.

With the help of Sonja's friend Jenny, Hannis sets out a new plan to blow the police investigation wide open. At the same time, Karla finally gets a breakthrough in the case, which could change everything.

Following Ragnar's final warning to Hannis, a discovery reveals who the true culprit might be. But without enough evidence to support his theory, Hannis takes drastic measures to catch Sonja's killer.
