A man gets himself sent to prison so he can plan an escape for his brother, a death-row inmate who swears he's innocent and is being framed.

As racial tensions simmer inside the prison and Veronica digs into Lincoln's case, Michael tries to get a drug that will help him test positive for diabetes, and to secure a large bolt he can use in his escape plan.

Michael encounters problems bringing Abruzzi and Sucre into his plan; Veronica gets a statement from Leticia, but then loses her; and Lincoln considers having a family member at his execution.

Michael obtains some caustic chemicals to use in his escape plan; Haywire develops an uncomfortable fascination with Michael's tattoo; and Veronica enlists further legal help in her investigation.

While Kellerman and Hale push Michael's transfer, Michael stalls it and tests the first part of his escape plan; and Veronica and Nick study the video that convicted Lincoln, but someone else wants it too.

Michael's ploy to buy some work time by prompting a cellblock lockdown leads to a full-scale riot; Nick convinces Veronica that he really does want to help her; and Kellerman hires an inmate to kill Lincoln.

During the prison riot Michael rescues Sara, the assassin tries to kill Lincoln, and Bellick defies Pope to talk to the governor; and Veronica and Nick fly to Washington, DC, to trace the tipster's phone call.

Michael tries to figure out how to tunnel into a building that houses a guards' break room; Kellerman and Hale attempt to kill Veronica and LJ; and T-Bag tries to dodge responsibility for Bob's murder.

T-Bag loses one slave and targets another; Kellerman and Hale continue to follow LJ, who tries to contact Veronica for help; and Abruzzi's inability to meet the gangsters' demands jeopardizes the escape.

To regain control of the work team and restore their chances of escape, Abruzzi convinces Michael to tell Falzone where he can find Fibonacci; and as Nick and Veronica wonder where Steadman's money went, the Vice President brings in an FBI crony to take over for Kellerman and Hale.

Quinn terrorizes Veronica, Nick, and LJ; Michael builds a device that helps him figure out how much time his group will have to make its escape; and Westmoreland finally decides to join the escape team.

Tensions mount after Lincoln warns Michael that someone in the group will have to remain behind; Michael makes progress in reaching the infirmary; and Abruzzi threatens to kill T-Bag if he doesn't drop out of the group.

As Lincoln's execution nears, Michael puts the escape plan in motion; Kellerman confronts Hale; and Veronica uses the news media to announce a development that could prove Lincoln's innocence.

Michael tries, and fails, to delay Lincoln's execution by tampering with the electric chair; Veronica and Nick pursue an exhumation order for Terence Steadman's body; and Lincoln's time runs out.

Lincoln, who thinks he sees his father at the execution, wins a two-week stay when a judge orders Terence Steadman's body exhumed; and Sucre calls in a favour to help Michael verify a new route to the infirmary through the complicated drain system.

Flashbacks show how Michael, Lincoln, Sucre, C-Note, and T-Bag came to reside in the Fox River prison; and how Sara came to work there.

When Michael is thrown into solitary confinement, he nearly drowns in despair; Sucre is left to pave over the escape hole in the guards' room before a carpeting team can find it; and LJ finds Kellerman.

While Michael, in the psych ward, tries to get Haywire to remember the missing piece of his tattoo, the other members of his team try to keep Bellick from auctioning off Michael and Sucre's unoccupied cell.

Michael tries to figure out how to get the infirmary key from Sara; Lincoln learns about his father's role in the events that have ruined his life; and Tweener becomes desperate to escape from Avocado's abuse.

With their escape hole discovered, the cons are forced to make their break tonight, but with Lincoln under 24-hour watch, Michael may have to leave him behind; Michael confides in Sara, who abandons him; and then Michael plays his final card, making a drastic move against the warden.

Michael forces Pope to transfer Lincoln to the Infirmary; the escapees make it safely to Sara's unlocked office; Westmoreland succumbs but reveals his long held secret; and six of the inmates make it over the wall.

With the escape discovered, Bellick heads a massive manhunt for the cons; Vice President Reynolds makes a shocking power play; and a desperate race to the airstrip leads to a devastating conclusion.
