John Romeo
Actor, Director, Producer
John Romeo, born in Albany, NY is a long time stage actor, 28 years as a member of the NYS Theatre Institute company. His stage career included performing in London's West End, Off-Broadway in NYC, International tours to Italy, Moscow, Sweden, Jordan and venues all over NYS. his schooling includes undergraduate Drama at St. Michael's College under Joanne and Donald Rathgeb, Founders of the famed St. Michael's Playhouse. Before entering into full time acting, John worked in many varied and character building jobs, including, a funeral home assistant, drive in movie concession worker, state wide hot-line supervisor, paving crew, and many positions for NYS offices, he even had the distinction of being laid off from his 3 year position working for the Unemployment Insurance office. He started his career with NYSTI as a theatre technician and spent a couple years as a props person. His stage work brought him recognition by awards given by the Albany times Union ("Best OF..."-Actor) and Metroland Magazine (3 time winner of "Best Local Actor"). Roles ranging from Willie Loman in "A Death of a Salesman", Lenny in "Of Mice and Men", The Common Man in "A Man For All Seasons" and 9 shows with Director/Choreographer and Emmy winner, Pat Birch such as the title role in "Fiorello", George Pullman in "American Enterprise", Moo in the West End production of "The Snow Queen" and many more. He has an extensive background in Shakespeare including performances with Saratoga Shakespeare Company, and roles such as Friar Laurence in "Romeo & Juliet", Falstaff in "Henry IV, Pt.1, Macduff and The Porter in "Macbeth". He also studied text and movement at Shakespeare's The Globe Theatre in London. His film work began with Paul Grey's Film Atelier in "Everyman" in the late '70's. He has appeared in many independent films and has recently appeared in "Fighting For Freedom" with Bruce Dern and Kristanna Loken.
